12/29/2022, 6:18 PM
Summary of Bill HR 8525
Bill 117 HR 8525, also known as the Delivering Equity and Justice for Disaster Survivors Act of 2022, aims to address the disparities and inequities faced by disaster survivors in the United States. The bill seeks to provide more equitable access to resources and support for individuals and communities impacted by natural disasters.
One key provision of the bill is the establishment of a Disaster Equity Task Force, which will be responsible for identifying and addressing disparities in disaster response and recovery efforts. The task force will work to ensure that vulnerable populations, such as low-income communities and communities of color, receive the assistance they need to recover from disasters.
Additionally, the bill includes measures to improve the coordination and communication between federal, state, and local agencies involved in disaster response. This includes the creation of a centralized database to track disaster assistance applications and ensure that resources are distributed efficiently and equitably. Furthermore, the bill includes provisions to increase funding for disaster mitigation and preparedness efforts, with a focus on vulnerable communities that are disproportionately impacted by natural disasters. This includes funding for infrastructure improvements, early warning systems, and community resilience programs. Overall, the Delivering Equity and Justice for Disaster Survivors Act of 2022 aims to address the systemic inequities that exist in disaster response and recovery efforts, and ensure that all individuals and communities have access to the resources and support they need to recover and rebuild after a disaster.
