Summary of Bill HR 8216
The Digital Citizenship and Media Literacy Act proposes several key initiatives to achieve its goals. Firstly, it calls for the establishment of a grant program to support schools in implementing digital citizenship and media literacy education programs. These programs would focus on teaching students how to critically evaluate information online, understand the impact of their digital footprint, and navigate the complexities of the digital world.
Additionally, the bill aims to increase research and data collection on digital citizenship and media literacy, in order to better understand the current state of these skills among the American population and identify areas for improvement. This research would inform future policy decisions and initiatives to promote digital literacy. Furthermore, the Digital Citizenship and Media Literacy Act calls for the creation of a national advisory committee on digital citizenship and media literacy, composed of experts in the field who would provide guidance and recommendations to policymakers on how to best promote these skills among the public. Overall, Bill 117 HR 8216 seeks to address the growing need for digital citizenship and media literacy education in our society, in order to empower individuals to navigate the digital world responsibly and critically. By investing in education, research, and expert guidance, the bill aims to equip Americans with the skills they need to thrive in an increasingly digital and media-saturated environment.
