GOLD CARD Act of 2022
12/6/2023, 4:01 PM
Summary of Bill HR 7995
The GOLD CARD Act of 2022, also known as Bill 117 hr 7995, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to establish a new type of visa, known as the GOLD CARD visa, for highly skilled immigrants who wish to work in the United States.
The GOLD CARD visa would be available to individuals who have advanced degrees in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) fields, as well as individuals who have demonstrated exceptional abilities in these areas. The visa would allow holders to live and work in the United States for an initial period of three years, with the possibility of renewal for an additional three years.
In order to qualify for the GOLD CARD visa, applicants would need to meet certain criteria, including having a job offer from a US employer, passing a background check, and demonstrating proficiency in the English language. The bill also includes provisions for spouses and children of GOLD CARD visa holders to accompany them to the United States. Supporters of the GOLD CARD Act argue that it would help attract and retain highly skilled workers in the United States, thereby boosting innovation and economic growth. Critics, however, raise concerns about the potential impact on American workers and the need to prioritize job opportunities for US citizens. Overall, the GOLD CARD Act of 2022 aims to address the shortage of skilled workers in STEM fields in the United States by providing a pathway for highly qualified individuals to come and work in the country. The bill is currently being debated in Congress, with supporters and opponents voicing their opinions on the potential benefits and drawbacks of the proposed legislation.
