No Funding for Sanctuary Campuses Act
12/30/2022, 12:04 AM
Summary of Bill HR 7825
Bill 117 HR 7825, also known as the No Funding for Sanctuary Campuses Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The bill aims to prohibit federal funding from being allocated to colleges and universities that declare themselves as "sanctuary campuses."
A sanctuary campus is a term used to describe educational institutions that have policies in place to protect undocumented students from deportation. These policies may include refusing to cooperate with federal immigration authorities or providing resources and support to undocumented students.
The No Funding for Sanctuary Campuses Act seeks to penalize these institutions by withholding federal funding, including grants and other financial assistance. Supporters of the bill argue that sanctuary campuses undermine federal immigration laws and create a safe haven for individuals who are in the country illegally. Opponents of the bill, however, argue that it is discriminatory and goes against the values of inclusivity and diversity that are often promoted by colleges and universities. They believe that all students, regardless of their immigration status, should have access to education and support services. As of now, the bill is still in the early stages of the legislative process and has not yet been voted on by Congress. It has sparked debate among lawmakers, educators, and advocacy groups on both sides of the issue. It remains to be seen whether the No Funding for Sanctuary Campuses Act will gain enough support to become law.
