Summary of Bill HR 7598
Bill 117 HR 7598, also known as the Robocall Trace Back Enhancement Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress aimed at combating the issue of unwanted robocalls. The bill seeks to enhance the ability of law enforcement agencies and telecommunications providers to trace the origins of illegal robocalls and hold those responsible accountable.
The Robocall Trace Back Enhancement Act would require the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to establish a working group consisting of representatives from the telecommunications industry, law enforcement agencies, and consumer advocacy groups. This working group would be tasked with developing and implementing a system for tracing the origin of illegal robocalls more effectively.
Additionally, the bill would require telecommunications providers to implement call authentication technology to help verify the legitimacy of calls and prevent spoofing, a common tactic used by robocallers to disguise their identities. This technology would help consumers identify and block unwanted robocalls more easily. Overall, the Robocall Trace Back Enhancement Act aims to address the growing problem of illegal robocalls by improving the ability to trace their origins and hold those responsible accountable. By enhancing collaboration between industry stakeholders and law enforcement agencies, the bill seeks to protect consumers from the nuisance and potential scams associated with robocalls.
