Summary of Bill HR 7313
Bill 117 HR 7313, also known as the Supporting Diverse STEM Students Act, aims to increase diversity in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives on December 3, 2020, by Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson.
The main goal of this legislation is to provide support and resources to underrepresented minority students pursuing STEM education and careers. This includes students who are Black, Hispanic, Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, or individuals with disabilities.
The bill proposes several key initiatives to achieve this goal. It calls for the establishment of a grant program to fund scholarships, internships, and other opportunities for underrepresented minority students in STEM fields. Additionally, the bill aims to increase access to STEM education and resources for these students, as well as provide support for mentoring and professional development. Furthermore, the Supporting Diverse STEM Students Act seeks to promote diversity and inclusion in STEM by encouraging collaboration between educational institutions, industry partners, and government agencies. This includes efforts to increase representation of underrepresented minority groups in STEM-related research and workforce development programs. Overall, the bill aims to address the lack of diversity in STEM fields and provide opportunities for underrepresented minority students to succeed in these areas. By supporting and empowering these students, the legislation seeks to create a more inclusive and equitable STEM workforce for the future.
