The GIRLS STEM Act, also known as Bill 117 hr 7251, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress with the aim of encouraging and supporting girls in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The bill seeks to address the gender gap in STEM fields by providing funding for programs that specifically target and support girls in these areas.
The GIRLS STEM Act proposes to establish a grant program within the Department of Education that would provide funding to schools, non-profit organizations, and other entities that offer STEM programs for girls. These programs would focus on increasing girls' participation and success in STEM fields, as well as promoting gender equality in these areas.
Additionally, the bill calls for the creation of a national initiative to increase awareness of the importance of STEM education for girls and to provide resources and support for girls interested in pursuing STEM careers. This initiative would involve partnerships with industry leaders, educators, and community organizations to help girls access STEM opportunities and resources. Overall, the GIRLS STEM Act aims to empower and support girls in STEM fields, addressing the gender disparity that currently exists in these areas. By providing funding for programs and initiatives that specifically target girls, the bill seeks to increase girls' participation and success in STEM fields, ultimately leading to a more diverse and inclusive STEM workforce.
