Summary of Bill HR 7202
Bill 117 HR 7202, also known as the National Flood Insurance Program Affordability Act, aims to address the issue of rising flood insurance premiums for homeowners in flood-prone areas. The bill seeks to make flood insurance more affordable for policyholders by implementing various measures.
One key provision of the bill is the establishment of a Flood Insurance Rate Map Modernization Fund, which would provide funding for updating and modernizing flood insurance rate maps. This would help ensure that insurance premiums are based on accurate and up-to-date flood risk assessments.
Additionally, the bill includes provisions for the creation of a Flood Insurance Affordability Advocate within the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This advocate would be responsible for assisting policyholders in understanding their flood insurance rates and options, as well as advocating for policies that promote affordability. Furthermore, the bill aims to improve transparency and accountability within the National Flood Insurance Program by requiring FEMA to provide regular reports to Congress on the program's financial status and affordability measures. Overall, the National Flood Insurance Program Affordability Act seeks to address the challenges faced by homeowners in flood-prone areas by making flood insurance more affordable and accessible. It aims to strike a balance between protecting policyholders from financial hardship and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the program.
