12/29/2022, 9:48 PM

Summary of Bill HR 6953

The SPIGOT Act of 2022, also known as Bill 117 HR 6953, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The main purpose of this bill is to increase transparency and accountability in government spending by requiring federal agencies to report detailed information on their expenditures.

Under the SPIGOT Act, federal agencies would be required to provide quarterly reports to Congress and the public that detail how they are spending taxpayer dollars. This information would include a breakdown of expenditures by program, project, and activity, as well as information on any contracts or grants awarded by the agency.

Additionally, the SPIGOT Act aims to improve oversight of federal spending by establishing a new oversight body called the Spending and Program Integrity Government Oversight Taskforce (SPIGOT). This taskforce would be responsible for reviewing agency spending reports, identifying areas of waste or inefficiency, and making recommendations for improvement. Overall, the SPIGOT Act of 2022 seeks to promote transparency and accountability in government spending, with the goal of ensuring that taxpayer dollars are being used effectively and efficiently. It is currently being debated in Congress, with supporters arguing that it will help prevent waste and fraud, while opponents raise concerns about the potential burden it could place on federal agencies.
