Summary of Bill HR 6714
Bill 117 HR 6714, also known as the Red Hill WAI Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to address the issue of water contamination at the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility in Hawaii.
The Red Hill facility, which is operated by the US Navy, has been the source of several incidents of water contamination in recent years. This bill aims to improve the safety and security of the facility in order to prevent future contamination incidents.
Specifically, the Red Hill WAI Act requires the US Navy to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the facility's infrastructure and implement any necessary upgrades to prevent leaks and spills. The bill also mandates regular monitoring of the facility's water quality and requires the Navy to develop a plan for responding to any future contamination incidents. Additionally, the bill establishes a community advisory board to provide input and oversight on the Navy's actions at the Red Hill facility. This board will include representatives from local government, environmental organizations, and community members who are directly impacted by the facility. Overall, the Red Hill WAI Act is aimed at protecting the water quality in Hawaii and ensuring the safety of the surrounding communities. By requiring the Navy to take proactive measures to prevent contamination and involving the community in the decision-making process, this bill seeks to address a pressing environmental issue in a responsible and effective manner.
