Summary of Bill HR 6572

Bill 117 HR 6572, also known as the Countering CCP Drones Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress aimed at addressing the potential national security threats posed by drones manufactured by Chinese companies, specifically those affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The bill seeks to prohibit the federal government from purchasing or using drones or unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) that are manufactured or assembled in China or by Chinese companies with ties to the CCP. This restriction is based on concerns that these drones could be used for espionage or other malicious purposes by the Chinese government.

Additionally, the Countering CCP Drones Act requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to conduct a threat assessment of Chinese-made drones and UAS, as well as develop a strategy to mitigate any identified risks. The bill also mandates that federal agencies report to Congress on their use of Chinese drones and any security measures implemented to protect against potential threats. Overall, the Countering CCP Drones Act is designed to safeguard national security interests by limiting the use of Chinese-made drones within the federal government and implementing measures to address any potential risks associated with these devices.
