12/30/2022, 3:04 AM
Summary of Bill HR 6125
Bill 117 hr 6125, also known as the No Double Debt for Disaster Survivors Act of 2021, aims to provide relief to individuals who have been affected by natural disasters. The bill specifically addresses the issue of disaster survivors being burdened with multiple forms of debt as a result of these catastrophic events.
Under this legislation, individuals who have received assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for a disaster would not be required to repay any portion of that assistance if they have also received a loan from the Small Business Administration (SBA) for the same disaster. This provision is intended to prevent survivors from being saddled with double debt, which can be financially devastating in the aftermath of a disaster.
The bill also includes provisions to streamline the process for disaster survivors to apply for and receive assistance, as well as measures to improve coordination between FEMA and the SBA in providing aid to those in need. Additionally, the legislation seeks to increase transparency and accountability in the disaster assistance process, ensuring that funds are distributed efficiently and effectively to those who need them most. Overall, the No Double Debt for Disaster Survivors Act of 2021 is aimed at providing much-needed relief to individuals who have experienced the devastating effects of natural disasters, while also working to improve the overall effectiveness of the disaster assistance system in the United States.
