GREEN Buses Act
1/11/2023, 1:49 PM
Summary of Bill HR 3347
The GREEN Buses Act proposes several key measures to achieve this goal. Firstly, it calls for the allocation of federal funding to help public transportation agencies replace their current fleets of buses with newer, more energy-efficient models. These new buses would be required to meet certain emissions standards in order to qualify for the funding.
Additionally, the bill includes provisions for the development of infrastructure to support the use of electric buses, such as charging stations and maintenance facilities. It also encourages the use of alternative fuels, such as biodiesel or natural gas, in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality. Overall, the GREEN Buses Act aims to modernize and improve the sustainability of public transportation systems in the United States. By promoting the use of environmentally friendly buses, this legislation has the potential to reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and create a more sustainable transportation system for future generations.
Congressional Summary of HR 3347
Generating Reduced Emissions by Electrifying New Buses Act or the GREEN Buses Act
This bill limits eligibility for certain grants that support projects to reduce emissions of public transportation vehicles.
Current law permits the use of the grants for (1) projects related to both low- and zero-emission vehicles, and (2) constructing new and improving existing public transportation facilities to accommodate such vehicles. This bill limits the use of the grants to (1) projects related to no-emission vehicles, and (2) improving existing public transportation facilities.
The bill also sets out additional criteria that apply to the grants. For example, the bill specifies the minimum number of buses that must be procured through a grant. Furthermore, at least 10% of grant funds must be distributed to projects that predominately serve low-income communities.
