Purpose and Summary

No Retaining Every Gun In a System That Restricts Your Rights Act

This bill modifies the retention requirements for firearm transaction records of federal firearms licensees (FFLs) that go out of business.

Current law generally requires FFLs that go out of business to deliver their firearm transaction records to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

This bill removes the requirement for FFLs that go out of business to deliver their firearm transaction records to the ATF. Further, the bill requires the ATF to destroy all out-of-business records it has collected from FFLs.

Bill 119 hr 563, also known as the Firearms Records Protection Act, aims to amend title 18 of the United States Code to stop the Federal Government from collecting firearm transaction records from businesses that have closed down. The bill also requires the destruction of any previously collected records from these discontinued firearms businesses.

The main purpose of this bill is to protect the privacy and rights of gun owners by ensuring that their information is not unnecessarily collected and stored by the government. By discontinuing the collection of these records and mandating the destruction of existing records, the bill seeks to prevent any potential misuse or unauthorized access to this sensitive information.

In addition to these provisions, the bill also includes other measures aimed at safeguarding the rights of gun owners and promoting transparency in the handling of firearm transaction records. Overall, the Firearms Records Protection Act is designed to uphold the Second Amendment rights of individuals while also ensuring responsible and secure management of firearm-related data by the government.
