Defending Against Imitations and Replacements of Yogurt, Milk, and Cheese To Promote Regular Intake of Dairy Everyday Act or the DAIRY PRIDE Act

This bill prohibits the sale of any food that uses the market name of a dairy product (such as milk, yogurt, or cream cheese) unless the food (1) is the milk of a hooved animal, (2) is derived from such milk, or (3) contains such milk as a primary ingredient.

The DAIRY PRIDE Act, also known as Bill 118 hr 1462, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The main purpose of this bill is to address the issue of mislabeling of dairy products. The bill aims to prohibit the use of terms such as "milk," "cheese," and "yogurt" on products that do not come from animals, specifically plant-based alternatives.

The DAIRY PRIDE Act seeks to protect the integrity of dairy products and ensure that consumers are not misled by misleading labeling. Supporters of the bill argue that using terms traditionally associated with dairy products on plant-based alternatives can be confusing for consumers and may give these products an unfair advantage in the marketplace.

Opponents of the bill, however, argue that consumers are capable of distinguishing between traditional dairy products and plant-based alternatives and that the use of terms like "milk" on non-dairy products is a matter of free speech. Overall, the DAIRY PRIDE Act has sparked a debate about the labeling of plant-based alternatives to dairy products and the potential impact on consumers and the dairy industry. The bill is currently being considered by Congress, and its outcome remains uncertain.
