Coronavirus Medicaid Response Act

This bill increases the Medicaid federal matching rate, also known as the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP), for states and U.S. territories that experience economic downturns (i.e., high unemployment) beginning on or after January 1, 2020, in accordance with specified requirements and limitations. The bill's increase is in addition to previously enacted FMAP increases relating to COVID-19 (i.e., coronavirus disease 2019) but may not result in an FMAP greater than 95%.

The Bill 117 hr 1353, also known as the Coronavirus Medicaid Response Act, was introduced in the US Congress to address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Medicaid program. The bill aims to provide additional funding and resources to states to help them respond to the increased demand for Medicaid services during the public health crisis.

Specifically, the bill includes provisions to increase federal funding for Medicaid, streamline the enrollment process for individuals seeking Medicaid coverage, and expand access to telehealth services for Medicaid beneficiaries. Additionally, the bill includes measures to ensure that Medicaid providers are adequately reimbursed for the care they provide to patients during the pandemic.

Overall, the Coronavirus Medicaid Response Act seeks to support states in their efforts to provide essential healthcare services to low-income and vulnerable populations during the COVID-19 pandemic. The bill has received bipartisan support in Congress and is seen as a critical piece of legislation to help address the ongoing public health crisis.
