Summary of Bill S 729

Bill 119 s 729, also known as the Hospital Price Transparency and Disclosure Act, aims to make hospitals more transparent in their pricing practices. The bill seeks to amend the Public Health Service Act in order to improve compliance with existing requirements for hospitals to disclose their prices to the public.

The main goal of the bill is to ensure that patients have access to clear and accurate information about the costs of their healthcare services. This includes requiring hospitals to provide price information for common procedures and services, as well as information about insurance coverage and out-of-pocket costs.

In addition to enhancing price transparency, the bill also includes provisions to improve enforcement of these requirements. This includes penalties for hospitals that fail to comply with the disclosure requirements, as well as provisions for the Department of Health and Human Services to monitor and report on hospital compliance. Overall, the Hospital Price Transparency and Disclosure Act aims to empower patients to make more informed decisions about their healthcare by providing them with the information they need to understand and compare the costs of different treatment options. By increasing transparency in hospital pricing practices, the bill seeks to promote competition and drive down healthcare costs for consumers.
