Summary of Bill S 455
Under this proposed legislation, sensitive locations such as schools, hospitals, places of worship, and public demonstrations would be off-limits for immigration enforcement actions unless there is a specific exception granted by a supervisor or exigent circumstances exist. This is intended to protect individuals who may be seeking services or participating in activities at these locations from being targeted by immigration officers.
The bill also outlines the responsibilities of immigration officers when it comes to conducting enforcement actions at sensitive locations, emphasizing the need for sensitivity and respect for individuals present at these locations. Additionally, the legislation includes provisions for training immigration officers on how to handle enforcement actions at sensitive locations in a manner that is in line with the intent of the bill. Overall, Bill 119 s 455 aims to strike a balance between enforcing immigration laws and respecting the rights and dignity of individuals who may be present at sensitive locations. By limiting immigration enforcement actions at these locations and providing clear guidelines for immigration officers, the bill seeks to ensure that individuals can access services and participate in activities without fear of being targeted by immigration enforcement.
