4/23/2025, 1:32 PM
Summary of Bill HR 2530
Bill 119 HR 2530, also known as the School Lunch Improvement Act, aims to make changes to the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act in order to improve the nutritional quality of meals served in schools. The main focus of the bill is to prohibit the serving of certain foods that are deemed unhealthy or lacking in nutritional value under the school lunch program.
The bill seeks to address concerns about the high levels of sugar, sodium, and unhealthy fats in school meals by setting guidelines for what can and cannot be served. This includes limiting the amount of sugary beverages, processed foods, and high-fat snacks that can be offered to students during lunchtime.
In addition to restricting certain foods, the bill also aims to promote the consumption of healthier options such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Schools would be required to offer a variety of nutritious choices to students in order to ensure that they are receiving the proper nutrients needed for growth and development. Overall, the School Lunch Improvement Act is designed to prioritize the health and well-being of students by promoting healthier eating habits and providing access to nutritious meals in schools. By implementing these changes, the bill aims to improve the overall quality of school lunches and contribute to the overall health and wellness of students across the country.
