Farmers’ Market Expansion Act of 2025

5/15/2025, 10:14 AM

Summary of Bill HR 2379

Bill 119 hr 2379, also known as the Tree Nut Inclusion Act, aims to amend the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 to expand the seniors farmers' market nutrition program to include tree nuts, including shelled tree nuts. This program provides low-income seniors with access to fresh fruits and vegetables at farmers' markets, helping to improve their nutrition and overall health.

The inclusion of tree nuts in this program is intended to offer seniors a wider variety of healthy food options, as tree nuts are known for their numerous health benefits, including being a good source of protein, healthy fats, and essential nutrients. By allowing seniors to purchase tree nuts with their program benefits, they can enjoy the nutritional benefits of these foods and potentially reduce their risk of chronic diseases.

In addition to expanding the seniors farmers' market nutrition program, the bill also includes provisions for other purposes related to supporting rural communities and promoting healthy eating habits among seniors. This legislation reflects a bipartisan effort to address the nutritional needs of low-income seniors and promote the consumption of nutritious foods like tree nuts. Overall, the Tree Nut Inclusion Act seeks to improve the health and well-being of low-income seniors by expanding access to healthy food options through the seniors farmers' market nutrition program.
