3/11/2025, 4:23 AM
Summary of Bill HR 1179
Bill 119 HR 1179, also known as the "Chiquita Canyon Relief Act," aims to provide financial relief to individuals affected by the Chiquita Canyon elevated temperature landfill event. The bill proposes to exclude certain relief payments from being counted as gross income for tax purposes.
The Chiquita Canyon elevated temperature landfill event refers to a specific incident where the Chiquita Canyon landfill experienced abnormally high temperatures, leading to potential health and environmental hazards for nearby residents. The bill recognizes the impact of this event on the victims and seeks to alleviate some of the financial burdens they may have incurred as a result.
If passed, the bill would ensure that any relief payments provided to the victims of the Chiquita Canyon elevated temperature landfill event would not be subject to federal income tax. This exemption would help ensure that individuals receiving financial assistance do not face additional tax liabilities on top of the challenges they are already facing. Overall, the Chiquita Canyon Relief Act aims to provide much-needed support to those affected by the landfill event, offering them some financial relief during a difficult time.
