Iran Nuclear Treaty Act
12/17/2023, 7:07 AM
Summary of Bill S 472
Bill 118 s 472, also known as the Iran Nuclear Treaty Act, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The bill aims to address the United States' involvement in the Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The main purpose of the bill is to prevent the United States from re-entering the JCPOA without the approval of Congress. This means that any future agreements or negotiations with Iran regarding their nuclear program would need to be approved by Congress before the United States could participate.
The bill also includes provisions that would require the President to certify to Congress that Iran is not in violation of the JCPOA before any sanctions relief could be provided. Additionally, the bill calls for increased monitoring and verification of Iran's nuclear activities to ensure compliance with the agreement. Overall, the Iran Nuclear Treaty Act seeks to ensure that the United States has a say in any future agreements with Iran regarding their nuclear program and that proper oversight and verification measures are in place to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
