PROTECT Act of 2023
12/15/2023, 4:05 PM
Summary of Bill S 353
The PROTECT Act of 2023, also known as Bill 118 s 353, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress with the aim of enhancing protections for children and vulnerable populations. The bill focuses on addressing issues related to child exploitation, human trafficking, and online safety.
One key aspect of the PROTECT Act is the establishment of a National Child Abuse Registry, which would serve as a centralized database for tracking individuals convicted of child abuse offenses. This registry would help prevent abusers from working with children in the future and provide law enforcement with valuable information to investigate and prosecute cases of child abuse.
Additionally, the bill includes provisions to strengthen penalties for individuals involved in human trafficking, particularly those who exploit children for commercial sex acts. The PROTECT Act aims to increase resources for law enforcement agencies to combat human trafficking and provide support for victims of these crimes. Another important component of the PROTECT Act is the focus on online safety for children. The bill includes measures to enhance protections for children from online predators and cyberbullying, as well as initiatives to promote digital literacy and internet safety education in schools. Overall, the PROTECT Act of 2023 seeks to improve protections for children and vulnerable populations, address issues related to child exploitation and human trafficking, and enhance online safety measures. The bill reflects a bipartisan effort to prioritize the well-being and safety of our nation's youth.
