Summary of Bill S 3189
Bill 118 s 3189, also known as the Legacies of War Recognition and Unexploded Ordnance Removal Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The main purpose of this bill is to address the issue of unexploded ordnance (UXO) in countries affected by past conflicts involving the United States.
The bill aims to provide funding and support for the removal of UXO in countries such as Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia, where millions of unexploded bombs and landmines still pose a threat to civilians. These remnants of war continue to cause casualties and hinder economic development in these regions.
Additionally, the Legacies of War Recognition and Unexploded Ordnance Removal Act seeks to raise awareness about the impact of UXO on local communities and honor the sacrifices made by those affected by these remnants of war. The bill also calls for increased coordination between the US government and international organizations working on UXO removal efforts. Overall, this legislation highlights the importance of addressing the ongoing humanitarian and security challenges posed by unexploded ordnance in conflict-affected countries and emphasizes the need for continued support and resources to effectively address this issue.
