PROTECT Act
12/15/2023, 4:09 PM
Summary of Bill S 3108
The PROTECT Act, also known as Bill 118 s 3108, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The main goal of this bill is to enhance protections for children and victims of child exploitation.
One key provision of the PROTECT Act is the establishment of a National Child Abuse Registry, which would allow law enforcement agencies to track individuals who have been convicted of child abuse or exploitation offenses. This registry would help prevent these individuals from working with children in the future and would also aid in investigations of child abuse cases.
Additionally, the PROTECT Act includes measures to increase penalties for individuals who engage in child exploitation activities, such as producing or distributing child pornography. These harsher penalties are intended to deter individuals from committing these heinous crimes and to ensure that justice is served for the victims. The bill also includes provisions to improve training for law enforcement officers and other professionals who work with children, in order to better identify and respond to cases of child abuse and exploitation. This training would help ensure that these individuals are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect children and hold offenders accountable. Overall, the PROTECT Act aims to strengthen protections for children and victims of child exploitation, by establishing a national registry, increasing penalties for offenders, and improving training for professionals. If passed, this legislation could have a significant impact on preventing and addressing child abuse and exploitation in the United States.
