Summary of Bill S 226
Bill 118 s 226, also known as the ESP Family Leave Act, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to provide employees with the opportunity to take paid leave in order to care for a family member who is a member of the Armed Forces and has a serious injury or illness.
Under the ESP Family Leave Act, eligible employees would be able to take up to 12 weeks of paid leave in a 12-month period to care for a family member who is a member of the Armed Forces and has a serious injury or illness. This leave would be in addition to any other leave that the employee is entitled to under the Family and Medical Leave Act.
In order to be eligible for this leave, employees must have worked for their employer for at least 12 months and have worked at least 1,250 hours in the previous 12 months. Employers would be required to continue providing health insurance coverage for employees on leave, and employees would be guaranteed the right to return to their job after their leave is over. The ESP Family Leave Act aims to provide support for employees who need to take time off work to care for a family member who has been injured or fallen ill while serving in the Armed Forces. This bill is currently being debated in Congress, and its future remains uncertain.
