Flood Insurance Consumer Choice Act of 2023
3/12/2024, 9:25 PM
Summary of Bill S 2110
Bill 118 s 2110, also known as the Flood Insurance Consumer Choice Act of 2023, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The main goal of this bill is to provide consumers with more options when it comes to purchasing flood insurance.
One of the key provisions of the bill is the establishment of a pilot program that would allow homeowners to purchase flood insurance from private insurers, rather than being required to buy it through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). This pilot program would be implemented in certain designated areas and would give consumers the opportunity to compare rates and coverage options from both private insurers and the NFIP.
Additionally, the bill aims to increase transparency in the flood insurance market by requiring insurers to provide clear and easily understandable information about their policies, including coverage limits, deductibles, and exclusions. This would help consumers make more informed decisions when purchasing flood insurance. Overall, the Flood Insurance Consumer Choice Act of 2023 seeks to empower consumers by giving them more options and information when it comes to protecting their homes from flood damage. It is currently being debated in Congress and may undergo further revisions before potentially being passed into law.
