FAIR Fees Act of 2023
12/15/2023, 4:05 PM
Summary of Bill S 209
The FAIR Fees Act of 2023, also known as Bill 118 s 209, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress aimed at regulating fees charged by airlines for various services. The bill seeks to address concerns about the rising costs of air travel and the lack of transparency in fee structures.
Under the FAIR Fees Act, airlines would be required to disclose all fees for optional services at the time of booking, including fees for checked baggage, seat selection, and ticket changes. This would give consumers more information upfront about the total cost of their flight and allow them to make more informed decisions.
Additionally, the bill would prohibit airlines from charging unreasonable fees for services that are essential to the basic operation of a flight, such as fees for carry-on baggage or fees for printing boarding passes. Airlines would also be required to refund fees for services that were not provided as promised. Overall, the FAIR Fees Act aims to protect consumers from hidden fees and ensure that airlines are transparent in their pricing practices. Supporters of the bill argue that it will make air travel more affordable and fair for all passengers.
