12/15/2023, 4:07 PM

Summary of Bill S 1353

Bill 118 s 1353, also known as the Adjunct Faculty Loan Fairness Act of 2023, aims to address the financial challenges faced by adjunct faculty members in higher education. These part-time instructors often face low pay, lack of job security, and limited access to benefits such as health insurance and retirement plans.

The bill proposes several measures to support adjunct faculty members, including the establishment of a loan forgiveness program specifically for these educators. This program would provide relief for student loan debt incurred while working as adjunct faculty members.

Additionally, the bill seeks to improve transparency and accountability in higher education institutions by requiring them to report on the employment status and compensation of adjunct faculty members. This information would help shed light on the working conditions of these educators and potentially lead to improvements in their pay and benefits. Overall, the Adjunct Faculty Loan Fairness Act of 2023 aims to address the financial struggles faced by adjunct faculty members and improve their overall working conditions in higher education.
