FLED Accountability Act of 2023

12/15/2023, 4:05 PM

Summary of Bill S 126

Bill 118 s 126, also known as the FLED Accountability Act of 2023, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The main purpose of this bill is to increase accountability and transparency within the Federal Law Enforcement Department (FLED).

One of the key provisions of the FLED Accountability Act is the requirement for all FLED agents to wear body cameras while on duty. This measure is intended to ensure that the actions of FLED agents are recorded and can be reviewed in cases of misconduct or abuse of power. Additionally, the bill mandates that all body camera footage be stored securely and made available for review by independent oversight committees.

Another important aspect of the FLED Accountability Act is the establishment of a new Office of Inspector General within the FLED. This office would be responsible for conducting internal investigations into allegations of misconduct or wrongdoing by FLED agents. The Inspector General would have the authority to subpoena witnesses, gather evidence, and make recommendations for disciplinary action if necessary. Furthermore, the FLED Accountability Act includes provisions for increased training and education for FLED agents on topics such as de-escalation techniques, cultural sensitivity, and ethical conduct. This is aimed at ensuring that FLED agents are better equipped to handle challenging situations in a professional and responsible manner. Overall, the FLED Accountability Act of 2023 seeks to improve accountability and oversight within the Federal Law Enforcement Department, with the goal of promoting trust and confidence in the agency among the American public.
