Summary of Bill HR 5996
Bill 118 hr 5996, also known as the Stop Taxpayer Funding of Hamas Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The main purpose of this bill is to prevent any taxpayer funds from being used to support Hamas, a Palestinian militant group designated as a terrorist organization by the US government.
The bill aims to achieve this by prohibiting any federal funds from being provided to any entity that has known ties to Hamas or that provides support to Hamas in any way. This includes both direct funding as well as funding through third-party organizations.
Additionally, the bill requires the Secretary of State to submit a report to Congress detailing any known instances of taxpayer funds being used to support Hamas, as well as any steps taken to prevent such funding in the future. Overall, the Stop Taxpayer Funding of Hamas Act seeks to ensure that US taxpayer dollars are not inadvertently supporting terrorist organizations like Hamas, and to hold accountable any individuals or entities that may be providing such support.
