Medicaid Bump Act
2/5/2024, 2:30 PM
Summary of Bill HR 4892
The Medicaid Bump Act, also known as Bill 118 hr 4892, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The main goal of this bill is to provide a temporary increase in federal funding for state Medicaid programs in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Specifically, the Medicaid Bump Act would increase the federal medical assistance percentage (FMAP) by 5 percentage points for all states and territories for a period of one year. This increase in federal funding would help states cover the increased costs of providing healthcare services to Medicaid beneficiaries during the pandemic.
The bill also includes provisions to ensure that states use the additional funding to support Medicaid beneficiaries and healthcare providers, rather than diverting the funds for other purposes. Additionally, the legislation includes reporting requirements to track how the additional funding is being used by states. Overall, the Medicaid Bump Act aims to provide much-needed financial support to state Medicaid programs during this challenging time, ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to essential healthcare services.
