The main provisions of the bill include requiring rental car companies to fix any safety recalls on their vehicles before renting them out to consumers. This is to ensure that consumers are not put at risk by driving vehicles with known safety issues. The bill also requires rental car companies to disclose any fees or charges associated with renting a vehicle upfront, so consumers are not surprised by hidden costs.
Additionally, the bill prohibits rental car companies from renting out vehicles that are under a safety recall until the necessary repairs have been made. This is to prevent consumers from unknowingly driving vehicles that may have serious safety defects. Overall, the Rental Car Consumer Protection Act aims to protect consumers who rent vehicles from rental car companies by ensuring that they are informed about any potential safety issues and are not hit with unexpected fees. The bill is currently being reviewed by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
