Summary of Bill HR 398
Bill 118 HR 398, also known as the Protecting Life and Integrity in Research Act of 2023, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The main purpose of this bill is to prohibit the use of federal funds for research that involves the creation, destruction, or harming of human embryos.
The bill aims to protect the sanctity of human life by ensuring that taxpayer dollars are not used to support research that involves the destruction of embryos. It also seeks to promote ethical standards in scientific research by prohibiting the use of federal funds for any research that violates the dignity and integrity of human life.
If passed, this bill would have significant implications for the field of biomedical research, as it would restrict the types of research that can be conducted using federal funds. Supporters of the bill argue that it is necessary to protect the rights of the unborn and uphold ethical standards in scientific research. Critics, however, argue that the bill could hinder important research that has the potential to advance medical knowledge and save lives. Overall, Bill 118 HR 398 is a controversial piece of legislation that raises important questions about the intersection of ethics, science, and government funding. It will be interesting to see how this bill progresses through the legislative process and what impact it may have on the future of biomedical research in the United States.
