Short Line Railroad Relief Act
2/7/2024, 4:02 PM
Summary of Bill HR 3782
Bill 118 hr 3782, also known as the Short Line Railroad Relief Act, aims to provide relief and support to short line railroads in the United States. Short line railroads are smaller, local railroads that play a crucial role in transporting goods and passengers to and from larger railroads.
The bill proposes several measures to help short line railroads thrive and continue to operate efficiently. One key provision of the bill is the extension of the Short Line Railroad Rehabilitation and Investment Act (45 U.S.C. 244) through 2025. This act provides tax credits to short line railroads for track maintenance and upgrades, helping them improve safety and efficiency.
Additionally, the bill seeks to increase the tax credit cap for short line railroads from $3,500 per mile of track to $4,500 per mile of track. This increase in the tax credit cap will allow short line railroads to invest more in their infrastructure and make necessary improvements to their tracks. Furthermore, the bill includes provisions to streamline the process for short line railroads to apply for and receive tax credits. This will make it easier for short line railroads to access the financial support they need to maintain and upgrade their tracks. Overall, the Short Line Railroad Relief Act aims to support and strengthen short line railroads in the United States, ensuring that they can continue to play a vital role in the transportation of goods and passengers.
