Summary of Bill HR 2983
The Fresh Start Act of 2023, also known as Bill 118 hr 2983, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The main goal of this bill is to provide individuals with criminal records a second chance by expunging certain non-violent offenses from their record.
Under the Fresh Start Act, individuals who have been convicted of non-violent offenses such as drug possession or minor property crimes may be eligible to have these offenses removed from their criminal record after a certain period of time has passed. This would allow these individuals to have a clean slate and have better opportunities for employment, housing, and other aspects of their lives.
The bill also includes provisions for providing support services to individuals who have had their records expunged, such as job training and counseling services. Additionally, the Fresh Start Act aims to reduce recidivism rates by helping individuals reintegrate into society and lead productive lives. Overall, the Fresh Start Act of 2023 is a bipartisan effort to give individuals with criminal records a second chance and help them move forward in a positive direction. It is currently being debated in Congress and has the potential to make a significant impact on the lives of many Americans.
