Summary of Bill HR 2930
The Clean Slate Act of 2023, also known as Bill 118 hr 2930, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The main goal of this bill is to help individuals with criminal records have a fresh start by automatically sealing certain non-violent criminal records after a certain period of time.
Under the Clean Slate Act, individuals who have been convicted of certain non-violent offenses, such as drug possession or minor property crimes, would have their criminal records sealed after a set period of time without any further criminal activity. This would allow these individuals to have a clean slate and not have their past mistakes hinder their ability to find employment, housing, or other opportunities.
The bill also includes provisions to help individuals with criminal records access resources and support to successfully reintegrate into society, such as job training programs and assistance with expunging or sealing other criminal records. Overall, the Clean Slate Act of 2023 aims to give individuals with non-violent criminal records a second chance and help them move forward with their lives in a positive way. It is currently being debated in Congress and has garnered support from both Democrats and Republicans who believe in criminal justice reform and giving individuals a chance to rebuild their lives.
