1/31/2024, 8:15 AM

Summary of Bill HR 2806

Bill 118 hr 2806, also known as the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Rural and Remote Hiring and Retention Strategy Act of 2023, aims to address the challenges faced by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency in recruiting and retaining personnel in rural and remote areas. The bill recognizes that these areas often have difficulty attracting and retaining qualified employees due to factors such as limited access to amenities and services, as well as the high cost of living.

To address these challenges, the bill proposes the development of a comprehensive hiring and retention strategy specifically tailored to rural and remote areas. This strategy would include measures to increase recruitment efforts in these areas, such as offering incentives for employees to work in rural and remote locations, as well as providing training and support to help them adjust to the unique challenges of living and working in these areas.

Additionally, the bill calls for the establishment of partnerships with local communities, businesses, and educational institutions to help facilitate the recruitment and retention of CBP personnel in rural and remote areas. These partnerships would aim to provide support and resources to CBP employees, as well as to promote economic development and job opportunities in these communities. Overall, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Rural and Remote Hiring and Retention Strategy Act of 2023 seeks to improve the recruitment and retention of CBP personnel in rural and remote areas, ultimately enhancing the agency's ability to effectively carry out its mission of securing the nation's borders.
