Summary of Bill HR 1082

Bill 118 HR 1082, also known as the Military Sexual Trauma Retirement Equity Act, aims to address the issue of military sexual trauma within the armed forces. The bill specifically focuses on the retirement benefits of service members who have experienced sexual trauma during their time in the military.

Under current law, service members who are forced to leave the military due to military sexual trauma are not eligible for full retirement benefits. This bill seeks to change that by ensuring that these service members receive the same retirement benefits as those who retire for other reasons.

The bill also includes provisions for counseling and support services for service members who have experienced military sexual trauma. These services are intended to help these individuals cope with the trauma they have experienced and transition back into civilian life. Overall, the Military Sexual Trauma Retirement Equity Act aims to provide support and resources for service members who have experienced sexual trauma while serving in the military. By addressing the issue of retirement benefits and providing counseling services, the bill seeks to ensure that these individuals are able to receive the care and support they need to heal and move forward.
