12/15/2023, 3:54 PM
Summary of Bill HR 1006
Bill 118 hr 1006, also known as the NRC Survey Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to require the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to conduct a survey of individuals who live within a 50-mile radius of a nuclear power plant. The survey would gather information on the residents' knowledge of emergency procedures, their level of preparedness in the event of a nuclear incident, and their overall confidence in the safety of the nuclear power plant.
The NRC Survey Act aims to improve communication and transparency between nuclear power plants and the communities that surround them. By collecting data on residents' perceptions and concerns, the NRC can better understand how to address any gaps in emergency preparedness and public awareness. This information can also be used to enhance safety protocols and communication strategies in the event of a nuclear emergency.
Overall, the NRC Survey Act seeks to promote safety and awareness in communities near nuclear power plants by ensuring that residents are informed and prepared for any potential risks. This bill highlights the importance of public engagement and communication in maintaining the safety and security of nuclear facilities.
