Summary of Bill HR 9093
Bill 117 HR 9093, also known as the Homeland Security Fentanyl Enforcement Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress with the aim of combating the illegal trafficking and distribution of fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid that has been responsible for a significant number of overdose deaths in the United States.
The bill proposes several measures to address the fentanyl crisis, including increasing resources for law enforcement agencies to detect and intercept fentanyl shipments, enhancing penalties for individuals involved in fentanyl trafficking, and improving coordination between federal, state, and local authorities in the fight against fentanyl.
Additionally, the Homeland Security Fentanyl Enforcement Act seeks to strengthen international cooperation to prevent the smuggling of fentanyl into the United States from other countries, particularly China and Mexico, where much of the illicit fentanyl supply originates. Overall, the bill aims to address the growing threat of fentanyl and its devastating impact on communities across the country by implementing a comprehensive approach to enforcement and prevention. It is currently being considered by Congress and has garnered bipartisan support for its efforts to combat the fentanyl crisis.
