Summary of Bill HR 9007
Bill 117 HR 9007, also known as the Solutions Not Stigmas Act of 2022, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress with the aim of addressing the stigmas surrounding mental health and substance use disorders. The bill seeks to promote a more compassionate and effective approach to these issues by focusing on solutions rather than perpetuating negative stereotypes.
One of the key provisions of the bill is the establishment of a national public education campaign to raise awareness about mental health and substance use disorders, as well as to combat the stigma associated with these conditions. This campaign would be aimed at educating the public about the prevalence of these disorders, the importance of seeking help, and the effectiveness of treatment options.
Additionally, the Solutions Not Stigmas Act of 2022 includes measures to improve access to mental health and substance use disorder treatment services. This includes expanding funding for mental health and substance use disorder treatment programs, as well as increasing access to telehealth services for individuals in rural and underserved areas. The bill also includes provisions to strengthen mental health and substance use disorder parity laws, which require insurance companies to provide equal coverage for mental health and substance use disorder treatment as they do for other medical conditions. This is aimed at ensuring that individuals with these disorders have access to the care they need without facing discriminatory barriers. Overall, the Solutions Not Stigmas Act of 2022 represents a bipartisan effort to address the stigmas surrounding mental health and substance use disorders and to improve access to treatment for individuals struggling with these conditions. By focusing on solutions and promoting a more compassionate approach, this bill has the potential to make a positive impact on the lives of millions of Americans.
