Summary of Bill HR 6665
Bill 117 HR 6665, also known as the USB Act, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The main purpose of this bill is to address the issue of electronic waste and promote sustainability by requiring electronic devices to be compatible with universal serial bus (USB) chargers.
The USB Act aims to reduce electronic waste by standardizing charging ports across all electronic devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops. This would allow consumers to use the same charger for multiple devices, reducing the need to constantly purchase new chargers and ultimately decreasing the amount of electronic waste generated.
Additionally, the bill seeks to promote energy efficiency by encouraging the use of USB chargers, which are generally more energy-efficient than traditional chargers. By standardizing charging ports, the USB Act aims to make it easier for consumers to choose energy-efficient charging options and reduce their overall energy consumption. Overall, the USB Act is a bipartisan effort to address the growing issue of electronic waste and promote sustainability in the electronics industry. If passed, this legislation has the potential to have a significant impact on reducing electronic waste and promoting energy efficiency in the United States.
