Summary of Bill HR 6438
Bill 117 HR 6438, also known as the Dearfield Study Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to authorize a study on the historical significance of the town of Dearfield, Colorado.
Dearfield was founded in 1910 by African American homesteaders and was one of the few successful African American agricultural communities in the early 20th century. The town thrived for several decades before declining in the 1940s due to economic challenges and the effects of the Dust Bowl.
The Dearfield Study Act aims to recognize and preserve the history of Dearfield by conducting a comprehensive study of the town's significance. This study will include research on the town's founding, development, and decline, as well as its impact on African American history and culture. The bill also calls for the creation of a report that will be submitted to Congress and made publicly available. This report will provide recommendations for preserving and promoting the historical significance of Dearfield for future generations. Overall, the Dearfield Study Act seeks to honor the legacy of the African American homesteaders who built and sustained the town of Dearfield, and to ensure that their contributions to American history are not forgotten.
