12/30/2022, 3:04 AM

Summary of Bill HR 6236

Bill 117 hr 6236, also known as the FAIRNESS in Flood Insurance Act of 2021, aims to address issues related to flood insurance in the United States. The bill seeks to make improvements to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) by providing more transparency and fairness to policyholders.

One key provision of the bill is the requirement for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide policyholders with clear and easily understandable information about their flood insurance policies. This includes details about coverage limits, deductibles, and premiums, as well as information on how to file a claim.

Additionally, the bill aims to address concerns about the affordability of flood insurance by requiring FEMA to conduct a study on the impact of rate increases on policyholders. This study will help policymakers better understand the potential effects of rate hikes on homeowners and businesses in flood-prone areas. Furthermore, the FAIRNESS in Flood Insurance Act of 2021 includes provisions to improve the mapping of flood zones and update flood risk assessments. This will help ensure that policyholders are accurately informed about their flood risk and can make informed decisions about their insurance coverage. Overall, the bill seeks to promote fairness and transparency in the NFIP, while also addressing concerns about affordability and accuracy in flood insurance policies. By making these improvements, policymakers hope to better protect homeowners and businesses from the financial devastation of flooding events.
