The bill outlines specific guidelines and regulations that research facilities must follow when conducting experiments on animals. These guidelines include requirements for proper housing, feeding, and medical care for the animals, as well as protocols for minimizing pain and distress during experiments.
Additionally, the SAFE Biomedical Research Act aims to promote transparency in research practices by requiring facilities to report detailed information about their animal testing procedures to the public. This includes information on the number and species of animals used, the purpose of the research, and the outcomes of the experiments. Overall, the SAFE Biomedical Research Act seeks to strike a balance between the important scientific advancements that can be made through animal research and the ethical treatment of animals involved in these experiments. It is currently being debated in Congress, with supporters arguing that it is necessary to protect animal welfare, while opponents raise concerns about potential impacts on scientific progress.
