FLAT Act
12/31/2022, 5:36 AM
Summary of Bill HR 5381
The FLAT Act, also known as Bill 117 hr 5381, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to simplify the tax code by implementing a flat tax system.
Under the flat tax system proposed in the FLAT Act, all taxpayers would pay the same tax rate regardless of their income level. This would eliminate the current progressive tax system where higher income earners pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes.
Proponents of the FLAT Act argue that a flat tax system would be fairer and more efficient, as it would eliminate loopholes and deductions that benefit the wealthy. They also believe that it would stimulate economic growth by encouraging investment and entrepreneurship. Opponents of the FLAT Act argue that it would disproportionately benefit the wealthy and result in a loss of revenue for the government. They also argue that it would be regressive, as lower income earners would end up paying a higher percentage of their income in taxes. The FLAT Act has been met with mixed reactions in Congress, with some lawmakers supporting the idea of simplifying the tax code and others expressing concerns about its potential impact on income inequality. The bill is currently being debated and has not yet been passed into law.
