Summary of Bill HR 4802

Bill 117 HR 4802, also known as the Feeding Hungry Students in Schools Act of 2021, aims to address the issue of food insecurity among students in the United States. The bill proposes several key provisions to ensure that all students have access to nutritious meals while at school.

One of the main components of the bill is the expansion of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program (SBP). These programs provide free or reduced-price meals to students from low-income families. The bill seeks to increase funding for these programs and streamline the application process to ensure that more students are able to benefit from them.

Additionally, the Feeding Hungry Students in Schools Act of 2021 includes provisions to address the issue of "lunch shaming," where students are stigmatized or punished for not being able to pay for their meals. The bill prohibits schools from taking any actions that would embarrass or shame students who cannot afford to pay for their meals. Furthermore, the bill includes measures to increase access to meals during weekends, holidays, and school breaks. This includes funding for programs that provide meals to students outside of regular school hours. Overall, the Feeding Hungry Students in Schools Act of 2021 aims to ensure that all students have access to nutritious meals while at school, regardless of their family's income level. By expanding existing programs, addressing lunch shaming, and increasing access to meals outside of school hours, the bill seeks to combat food insecurity among students and promote their overall health and well-being.
