Summary of Bill HR 2492
The GIVE Act, also known as Bill 117 HR 2492, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress that aims to promote volunteerism and community service among Americans. The bill seeks to expand and improve existing national service programs, such as AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps, by increasing funding and opportunities for individuals to participate in service projects.
One of the key provisions of the GIVE Act is the establishment of a new program called "America's Call to Service," which would provide incentives for individuals to volunteer in their communities. This program would offer education awards, stipends, and other benefits to encourage more Americans to engage in service activities.
Additionally, the GIVE Act aims to strengthen partnerships between the federal government, state and local governments, and nonprofit organizations to better coordinate and support volunteer efforts. The bill also includes provisions to improve the recruitment and training of volunteers, as well as to expand access to service opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds. Overall, the GIVE Act is designed to promote a culture of service and civic engagement in the United States, with the goal of addressing critical social issues and strengthening communities. The bill has received bipartisan support in Congress and is currently under consideration for passage.
