Summary of Bill S 1115
The GONE Act, also known as Bill 114 s 1115, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to address the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in the United States.
The GONE Act stands for "Gallant Official Notice of Enforcement Act" and it aims to improve coordination between federal, state, tribal, and local law enforcement agencies in order to better investigate cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. The bill also seeks to increase data collection and reporting on these cases, as well as provide training for law enforcement officers on how to handle such cases in a culturally sensitive manner.
Additionally, the GONE Act would establish a national strategy to address the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, as well as create a commission to study and make recommendations on how to prevent and respond to these cases more effectively. Overall, the GONE Act is a bipartisan effort to address a pressing issue that has long been overlooked in the United States. By improving coordination between law enforcement agencies and increasing data collection and reporting, this bill aims to bring justice to the families of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.
